By the way doing the research as to both history and whether to get Ubertis or Winchesters was a great deal of fun as well. I'm glad I didn't have to make a choice and probably would not have arrived at it had I not had them all but the 1873 and especially in the configuration they made that I have currently would have to be my number one. I like that I have it but it wouldn't be my first choice given the others. Very nice rifle and it completes the set and it's a take down version. Having very nice furniture was a priority for me. Henry happens to be known for the nice wood they use on their rifles but this happens to be even better. It was designed in 1860 and nine hundred were manufactured. It just cost a bit more at the time than the other ones and besides I wanted to make sure I got the limited Shot Show versions first.Īll of my Winchesters are Shot Show versions so the wood is the best grade they sell with the exceptions of the 92 but that's still the best grade they sold for that version. The Henry was an improved version of the earlier Volcanic repeating rifle made by Smith & Wesson. There are many reasons I chose this version over the Uberti and I am glad I did. My only regret is Henry Arms polishes the barrel way to much but everything and I mean everything else on this rifle is gorgeous. So even though the Henry Repeating Rifle was my third one it was the one I started wanting first. When I saw that Henry Repeating Arms made a replica of the Henry Repeating Rifle that was the beginning of my obsession with getting these rifles and checking out the whole history of the New Haven Arms Co and the Winchester Lever Gun. Nice to have that on a rifle but the Shotgun stock is much nicer for a number of reasons. Much prefer that stock to the normal crescent style stock. well after the Civil War before the US Government accepted the repeaters. However when I got them I easily fell for the CCH Receiver and the Shotgun stock on the 1873. Designed by Benjamin Tyler Henry, the Henry Rifle was considered one of the. You know or maybe you don't the whole Yellow Boy thing. To be honest however I thought before I got the 18 that I would like the 1866 aesthetically much more. Keep in mind the only real difference's between the 18 are mostly aesthetic with the only real difference being that the receiver on the 1966 won't allow you to fire 357. Actually that's why I purchased all of them.
